WORK.
Below are some examples of projects we've worked on recently.

Kirklees Year of Music 2023
Evaluation Lead
Kirklees Year of Music 2023 was a vibrant cultural programme celebrating the area's musical heritage through events, festivals, and community projects.

Collaborating with stakeholders and delivery teams, we developed a robust monitoring system and evaluation toolkit, employing methods like surveys, artist journals, postcards, and creative prompts to capture insights. We provided regular funder reports, conducted in-depth project evaluations, and delivered a comprehensive final report, showcasing the programme's achievements, community impacts, and contributions to the growth of Kirklees' creative sector.

HEY! Volunteering
Evaluation Partner
Brennan Research is the evaluation partner for Hull’s flagship volunteer programme, delivering impact studies, performance reviews, and evaluation reports for funders such as Spirit of 2012 and the National Lottery Heritage Fund.

In 2023, we conducted insight research for the Heritage Lottery Innovation Fund to explore opportunities for expanding the programme into a Coastal Heritage Volunteer Programme in East Riding. This work led to the creation of HEY! Brid, a pilot project that we evaluated through in-depth interviews with volunteers, council staff, and local host organisations, providing valuable insights into its success and future potential.

Hull Guildhall Time Ball
Evaluation Partner

The Guildhall Greenwich Time Ball, located on top of the Guildhall building in Hull, is a historic symbol of Hull's rich maritime heritage. Traditionally a time-signalling device that was commonly used in the 19th century to help ships synchronise their clocks for accurate navigation, the ball would drop at a specific time each day, visible to ships and people in the surrounding area. With funding from the National Lottery Heritage Fund, the time ball was recently restored to its former glory for the first time in over 100 years.
Brennan Research conducted an in-depth evaluation of the restoration project, focusing on the reach and impact of the wraparound public engagement activity in schools, libaries, museums and other community spaces in Hull. The evaluation articulated how the project had performed against its original aims - within the context of major disruption caused by the pandemic - and its contribution to public perceptions of Hull's maritime heritage.

Football Foundation 'PlayZones'
Research & Consultation Lead

To support an application for investment through the Football Foundation’s PlayZone Programme, Brennan Research conducted extensive community consultation to understand local residents’ views on sports participation and physical activity.

With a particular focus on areas of high deprivation and four audience priority groups, we reached out to various community groups, charities, religious organisations and other community stakeholders to collect feedback from a diverse range of residents to understand the level of demand for community-based sports facilities across the city.
